English Language AS/A Level at Boston High School

Course description

Language is the foundation of all knowledge. Although people speak, read and write everyday, it is often just taken for granted, yet it requires amazing cognitive abilities. Through studying English Language at A Level, you will develop a deep knowledge and understanding of how the language works by exploring  and analysing both spoken and written data.  You will develop writing skills for real‐world purposes, engaging creatively with topical issues relevant to language use. You will also look closely at the ways we acquire language as children and how contexts such as gender and the media impact on language use.

In Year 13, all students are required to complete an independent investigation into an aspect of language of particular interest to them and this provides excellent preparation for higher education as well as furthering your own engagement with and enjoyment of the subject.
