Advanced Women's Hairdressing Level 3 Diploma at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • Monitor and maintain health and safety in the salon
  • Consultation support for colleagues in hair services
  • Cut women's hair to create a variety of looks
  • Style and dress hair
  • Colour hair to create a variety of looks
  • Creative hairdressing design skills
  • Perm hair to create a variety of looks
  • Human resource management
  • Bridal hair
  • Colour correction (extra unit as extension)


Students are encouraged to provide their own clients throughout the course.


To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.  We also hold internal competitions during the year and student are encouraged to take part in external competitions.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or Barbering with tutor recommendation and a good attendance report.

Plus either 4 GCSE grades C or above in English and maths, or Functional Skills at Level 2 in English and Maths.


The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments/tests to demonstrate competence.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

This course is a recognised route into employment as, for example, an Artisitic Director, Salon Owner, Colourist, Educator, Session Stylist, Brand Ambassador and Bridal Specialist or to an Apprenticeship.
