Course description

Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. Course Overview

Year 1

Mechanics: Learn how projectiles fly, explain how and why things balance, use formulas to make predictions relating to force and work. 
Electrons, Waves and Photons: Find out the secrets of atomic structure, light and all types of waves. 
Practical Skills in Physics 1: Plan and carry out a practical investigation related to subjects in unit 1 or 2.

Year 2

The Newtonian World: Learn mechanics to a greater depth, including how planets orbit stars. Introduce yourself to the physics of Isaac Newton. 
Fields, Particles and Frontiers of Physics: Going beyond the Physics of Newton now, learn about exotic cosmic particles, force fields and other new advances in Physics. 
Practical Skills in Physics 2: Plan and carry out a practical investigation related to subjects in unit 1 or 2.

 

Entry requirements

B grades at Core and Additional science or B grades in two separate sciences (including the science selected to study).

Future opportunities

BSc Physics; astronomy; mathematics; IT; engineering; electronics.
