Law *FEES PAYABLE* at Sackville School

Course description

At AS, candidates will develop a knowledge and understanding of the legal system and an ability to
evaluate its operation and performance. The course introduces substantive law and requires simple
application of aspects of criminal law and civil law.
At AS we will study 2 units:
Unit 1: law making and the legal system
Unit 2: the concept of liability, which includes an
introduction to criminal liability and introduction
to contract
Assessment for each unit is through a written paper.
At A2, the specification further develops knowledge of the legal system and of substantive law
through criminal law and/or civil law. Evaluation of the concepts of law continues to be developed
at this level of study.
The A2 specification also has 2 units:
Unit 3: criminal law - fatal and non-fatal offences against the person
Unit 4: criminal law - offences against property and concepts of law
Assessment for each unit is through a written paper, Unit 3 lasting for 1.5 hours and Unit 4 lasting
for 2 hours; each provides 50% of the A2 course, 25% of the total A level

Entry requirements

Grade B or above at English language, grade C (higher tier where applicable) in science, maths and 3 other subjects
