Art and Design Level 2 Diploma at New College Durham

Course description

This course will enable you to gain a range of skills and knowledge of a working design process.

Course content

This course is unit-based and offers a good introduction into a range of both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional aspects of Design.  This includes: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and mixed media processes as well as a wide range of processes within 2D and 3D.  The course provides a framework for understanding design-based work from a design practitioner’s viewpoint.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above (or an equivalent related qualification) All applicants will be interviewed and will be required to bring a portfolio of artwork.

Future opportunities

If you pass all sections of the course it is equivalent to four GCSEs (grade C).   We offer progression onto a Extended Diploma in Art and Design and Extended Diploma in Graphics.  It is, however, necessary to first gain merits within the Diploma units in order to progress to the next level.

Graphic designer Graphic designers use illustrative, sound, visual and multimedia techniques to convey a message for information, entertainment, advertising, promotion or publicity purposes, and create special visual effects and animations for computer games, film, interactive and other media.
Product, clothing or related designer Product, clothing and related designers plan, direct and undertake the creation of designs for new industrial and commercial products, clothing and related fashion accessories, costumes and wigs, and for building interiors and stage sets.
