Sport Science at Rivington and Blackrod High School and Sixth Form

Course description

We provide an exciting opportunity for anyone who has a passion for sport and wants a successful career in the sports and leisure industry. You will develop a range of personal skills and knowledge essential for successful performance, and there will be opportunity to participate practically, as well as developing skills in areas such as, leadership, coaching and officiating.

Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry

Unit 4: Sports Leadership

Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance

Unit 8: Coaching for Performance

Unit 9: Research Methods in Sport

Unit 19: Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity

Unit 22: Investigating Business in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry

Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport.

 

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's Grade 4 or above.

All applications are subject to an interview to demonstrate your suitability for the course.

Assessment

Twelve units, all coursework assessed with no final exam

Equivalent in size to three  A Levels. Carrying equivalent UCAS points 

Future opportunities

This qualification will give you the opportunity to gain employment or to progress to
university and higher education.
 
This could enable you to develop a future career in vocations including: PE teaching, sports coaching, sports development, physiotherapy,
sports management and sports journalism.
