Chemistry (Higher) at The Sixth Form College Colchester

Course description

This course covers topics familiar from GCSE such as atomic structure, energetics, rates, periodicity and organic chemistry but in much greater depth. We also study Medicinal Chemisty. A high level of mathematical ability and good problem solving skills are required. The course involves 60 hours of practical work including a 10 hour assessed individual investigation which you plan, carry out and write-up. All science students also take part in a group 4 project on a common topic such as Energy or Colour as part of their programme. 

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for the IB Diploma are broadly the same as for a 4 AS programme. However, students will normally need to have C or above passes in English or English Language, Maths, Science and in a modern foreign language (where taken).
