Photography A Level at Northolt High School

Course description

You will learn how to use traditional and/or new media to produce outcomes such as documentary work, photojournalism, experimental imagery, photomontage, photographic or digital installation, animation, video and film. You will work in black and white and colour. You will produce projects on themes such as portrait, landscape and movement and a range of techniques appropriate to the chosen specialism of photography. You will also learn skills in analysis of images; techniques such as composition, framing, depth of field, film speed, shutter speed, lighting, exposure, viewpoint; experimenting with media, processes and techniques.

The course also involves educational visits to places such as the Photographers’ Gallery and other galleries and exhibitions in London.

Entry requirements

B grade in Art or Photography

Future opportunities

Students studying A Level Photography often go on to study the subject at college or university. With further training, you could go into a job related to this subject such as a photojournalist, fashion photographer, sports photographer or fine artist. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
