Construction Multi-Trades Diploma Level 1 at PETROC

Course description

There is a growing demand for people skilled in maintaining and repairing buildings. This study programme is to develop skills and knowledge, enabling students to work in the construction industry on a wide range of jobs from fixing roof tiles to maintaining drainage.

Course content

This qualification covers the following practical areas: plastering, bricklaying, tiling, plumbing, carpentry, storm water systems, roofing, lead flashing, drainage, and, painting and decorating. All aspects of the programme will be studied through both classroom-based theory sessions and practical-based workshop sessions.

Your study programme will include tutorial sessions and work experience. You will also study maths and English if a GCSE at grade C or above has not previously been achieved in these subjects.

Entry requirements

All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or equivalent or above, preferably including Maths and English Language. 

At the end of the one-year programme all learners are expected to have achieved GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language at grade 4, or show that they have been working towards improving their English and Maths by achieving an improvement to their previous grade.

Financial information

Is there any equipment needed to participate on this course?
Safety clothing including boots and overalls need to be purchased by the student. Students are also required to provide their own stationery and textbooks, a full equipment list will be provided at interview.

Are there any costs for this course?
Students are asked to pay a contribution towards materials and learning resources used in workshops and classrooms. There may also be trips throughout the year which may incur a cost.

Future opportunities

On completion of this Diploma, you may progress to the Level 2 Maintenance Operations programme, employment, an apprenticeship or another course within the architecture and construction field, in order to specialise further.
