Food Services Intermediate Apprenticeship at West Herts College

Course description

The hospitality and catering industry is one of the biggest in the country, spanning restaurants, hotels, caf├ęs, pubs and contract caterers. This apprenticeship is ideal for those looking to gain a qualification in this diverse industry and who currently work in the industry or are looking to enter it.

Course content

Develop food service skills including safely handing food and beverages as well as customer service.

Examples of subject areas include:

Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment Work effectively as part of a hospitality team Give customers a positive impression of self and your organisation Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food Serve food at the table Prepare and serve hot drinks using specialist equipment Maintain customer service through effective handover

The qualification is achieved by gaining practical experience at work. You will also be required to achieve a Level 1 award in English and maths and complete a workbook relating to employment rights and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

Employment at a suitable level - most employers ask for GCSEs in English and maths, but may have additional specific requirements.

Future opportunities

After completion of this course, you could progress onto other courses such as Level 3 Hospitality Supervision and Leadership, or Level 2 Team leading.
