Sport Level 2 Extended Certificate at Preston's College

Course description

Using our cutting edge sports facilities, this course will provide you with a deeper understanding of the world of sport and the many career opportunities available to you. You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and activities including football, basketball, hockey and handball. You will also take part in fitness training in our state-of-the art fitness suite.

Course content

Through a mixture of practical and theory based lessons, you will study the structure and functions of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems of the human body as well as the fundamental elements of sports coaching. As part of the course, you’ll also have the opportunity to demonstrate your coaching skills by planning and delivering sport sessions at a local primary school.

Entry requirements

You need four GCSE’s at grade D or above including English and maths. You’ll also need to be willing to develop coaching skills by carrying out voluntary work in the community.

Future opportunities

Successful completion at merit grade or above allows progression to the Level 3 course in Sport or you may seek employment within the industry. This qualification is relevant to a career in leisure, coaching, sports development and teaching.
