Compulsory content: Education, Methods in Context, Theory and Methods, Crime and Deviance

Options 1: Culture / Identity Family Health work

Options 2: Beliefs in Society Global Development Media Stratification

Entry requirements

Students must have GCSE grades A* - C in English Languages and Mathematics.  An ability to write in a clear logical way is essential as well as a genuine commitment to the reading that is required. A real interest in current affairs is also vital.


The A level qualification is assessed through three papers and requires the first two AS papers to be taken with a third in the final summer of study..

Future opportunities

Sociology is a social science and has strong links with the humanities.  It can be studied either on its own or in combination with another subject up to degree level e.g. Sociology and Business Studies. Sociology and Computer Science, Sociology and Statistics.  Sociology opens the way to a wide variety of careers – management, social work, social research, marketing, journalism and many more.
