Electrical Installation Level 2 at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai

Course description

Are you interested in a rewarding career as an electrician? This programme allows you to gain a range of practical skills, preparing you to work in electrical installation.

There are opportunities for electricians in the agricultural, commercial, domestic and industrial sectors, including specialist areas like sustainable energy, wind turbines and photovoltaics. Electricians may be self-employed, contracted, or employed by a wide range of employers, including building firms, engineering companies, local government, hospitals and colleges.

Course content

The programme is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Internally set assignments
  • Multi-choice on-line tests
  • Programme work
  • Practical assessments
  • Externally set exams (practical and on-line theory)

Entry requirements

  • Level 1 Electrical Installation, or equivalent, or
  • You will usually have GCSE Math, a language (English or Welsh 1st), plus one other non-language GCSE, all at grade C; or, a good Record of Achievement and references
  • We can also accept you based on practical experience, with a good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • An interview is required and you will be asked to declare any unspent criminal convictions
  • You will take short, industry standard tests as part of the interview process. If you do not meet the formal requirements, you may still be accepted based on these tests
  • Normal colour vision is essential, as is the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces

All places are subject to satisfactory interview.

The programme gives you to knowledge and skills to begin or continue your career in electrical installation. Whether you want to work in installation, production or service and maintenance, you will need the fundamental knowledge and skills provided by this programme.

If you progress directly into employment, you may be able to register as a domestic installer and work as a supervised electrician for an organisation. You could also complete further training on a part-time basis.
