A Level Applied ICT at The Elmgreen School

Course description

Are you interested in a career in ICT or do you feel that you would like to be able to enter the workplace with ICT skills that are relevant, in demand and up to date? If this sounds like you then this course would be an ideal choice. The course looks at a wide-range of application areas and how ICT solutions are used in the real-world. It would be ideal preparation for those wishing to study the area further in higher education as well as those aiming to enter the world of work. To thrive on the course you will have achieved at least a ā€˜Cā€™ at GCSE in ICT.

Course content

You will develop:
- an understanding of the impact of ICT on society and organisations
- an awareness of the economic, social and ethical implications of the use of ICT
- the ability to analyse critically the use of information technology systems
- the ability to analyse problems that could be solved or tasks that could be completed with the use ICT, and to identify how ICT can be used to solve these problems
- problem solving skills through the practical application of ICT
- interpersonal skills necessary for communicating and working with others
- the ability to reflect critically on the effectiveness of solutions created and personal performance

Second Year: A2
- Project Management
- Advanced Spreadsheet Design
- Interactive Multimedia

Entry requirements

ICT Grade B (or higher) or equivalent.
