Children & Young People’s Workforce Level 3 Diploma at Lakes College West Cumbria

Course description

This course is for those who would like to consolidate their knowledge of caring for children and gain a qualification that will help them gain employment in the childcare industry. This course will offer you the opportunity to work with children from birth to 8 years of age, and to gain experience in nurseries and schools. You will also be expected to complete a work placement as part of their qualification (subject to a criminal background check).

Entry requirements

Relevant GCSEs and interest in the occupational area. You will also need a DBS Check

Financial information

Free for 19-23 year olds who do not already have a full level 3 qualification e.g. 4 or more AS Levels or 2 A Levels. Advanced Learning Loans are available for further education courses at Level 3, 4 & 5. They operate like higher education loans with deferred payments until you earn over approximately £21, 000 per year. (Information available at https://www.gov.uk/advanced -learning-loans/overview) You have the option of taking out a loan or setting up a payment plan with the college that best suits your needs.

Future opportunities

Once you have successfully completed the course, you could progress onto the Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and their Services, University or employment. Successful completion of qualifications within this area can open the doors to a career within nurseries, schools, learning support, play therapy and children’s social work.
