Hairdressing and Barbering - Level 2 at Newcastle College
This will cover all aspects of hair care and prepares students for a career in hair salons. This course will include 9.00 am starts, a late night and a Saturday.

Fulfil salon reception duties Functional Skills/GCSE will also form an important part of your course (they are optional for part-time students). They are the skills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life. When you start the course, your tutor will discuss which Functional Skills are the most appropriate for you from the following:
Attend a presentation and interview with Central Admissions (external applicants only)
Complete written assignment within given deadline
4 GCSE passes at grade D or above, English and Mathematics desirable, or an NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing with a suitable reference from course tutor reflecting excellent attendance, attitude and achievement of learner view.
You must be prepared to study towards Level 1 or Level 2 in English and Numeracy
Good communication skills and command of English
Be able to provide one satisfactory reference either from a previous employer or educational establishment (where this exists)
Ability to commit to excellent attendance is essential, 100% attendance is expected (80% minimum accepted) on this course
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 4.5
Be able to stand for long periods of time and have good vision and good dexterity
Students must be willing to carry out and receive treatments on each other
It is essential that you will be able to provide a range of models on a weekly basis. Wear only light make-up. Hair must be clean and well groomed. Long hair must be fashionably tied back. Nails must be short and without nail polish. Minimal jewellery (watch, small neat earrings) can be worn in the salon, no chunky jewellery.
No facial piercing
You will need to wear standard Newcastle College professional salon uniform for all practical sessions (ask us for a copy of our College uniform and kit requirements for details).
Assessment is continuous, through class work and written questions. Underpinning knowledge is assessed by oral questions.
