Engineering - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Tech City College

Course description

Engineers have never been more in demand. The engineering sector continues to suffer from a skills gap and the need to keep up with rapidly developing technologies. This qualification gives new entrants to the engineering sector the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern engineering industries. Engineers take concepts and ideas and apply them to make products that meet social and consumer needs. A successful engineer has the technical, analytical, communication and management skills needed to design and create these products. Topics covered include health & safety, engineering communications and computer-aided design (CAD). You will also plan and develop your own engineering project.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English, Maths and Science or a relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit or above.


You will be assessed through coursework, including a combination of tests and assignments.

Future opportunities

This course is an essential qualification for degree courses in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, civil engineering and manufacturing. You will also develop skills which are transferable to other subjects, such as economics, business or management. The qualification can also open doors to careers and apprenticeships in areas that include design, fabrication, machining and finishing.
