Land and Wildlife Level 2 (Countryside and Game) at Askham Bryan College

Course description

An introduction for those who would like to work towards a career in the countryside conservation or game industry. It will give a thorough grounding covering the theory and practical skills. The programme provides an array of opportunities with trips to varied habitats to carry our surveys and conservation projects, local shoots and management of wildlife. The course will include industry based work experience in the form of work placements.  

 

Course content

Course Themes:

• Game and wildlife management

• Ecology • Habitat creation and conservation

• Estate skills

• Pest and predator control

• Health and safety

• Working in land-based industries

• English and maths  

Opportunity for students to specialise in Game or Countryside Conservation dependent on numbers.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Study Programmes: Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) or above to include two from Maths English and Science with at least a grade 2 (old GCSE grade E)  in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.

Assessment

Ongoing assessments through assignment work and formal controlled assessments where applicable.

    • The Saltaire Centre is in partnership with Shipley College. Situated in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Saltaire. Easy to get to by bus or train from Leeds, Bradford, Ilkley, Keighley, Bingley and Skipton. The Centre currently offers study programmes in Animal Management.
