Course description

Psychology tries to answer questions like; why do we forget, why do we like and dislike certain people and why do we like doing what others are doing?

What will I learn on this A Level course?

The main psychological explanations for behaviour based on theories, methods and key studies

How to look critically at psychological theories and research and also how to look critically at research highlighted in the media

Psychological theory and research on contemporary topics, for example, gender development, schizophrenia and forensic psychology

Ethical considerations in research - is it right to experiment on animals, for example?

How to design, conduct and report a psychological investigation.

Entry requirements

You can take AS Psychology having achieved any combination of GCSEs, although an interest in understanding human behaviour is essential. During the course you will need to be able to work independently and research information from a variety of sources. You will also need effective written communication skills. You will find it difficult to meet the requirements of the statistical part of the course without a good pass in GCSE Mathematics and English Language (Grade B or above).
