Biology GCSE at Strode College

Course description

GCSE Biology is designed for students who either want to gain a GCSE in a science subject, or improve on the GCSE science grade that they already have.
The course covers a wide range of biological topics including life on earth, the environment, healthcare, plant and animal characteristics and human physiology. You will also learn to use scientific terminology and carry out scientific experiments as part of the course.
Areas of study include: influences on life, such as inheritance and environment; the components of life, such as the building blocks of cells, organisms and energy; using biology, such as behaviour and biotechnology.
The course attracts students from a variety of backgrounds, many of whom bring a wealth of experience from work placements and health-related employment.

Entry requirements

Some background in science particularly Biology, is obviously helpful, but interest and commitment are more important.


Assessment is by written exams and a practical investigation.
