Sociology at St Anthony's Girls' Catholic Academy
Throughout the two year course, the core themes of socialisation, culture and identity plus social differentiation, power and stratification are considered as an integral part of all modules. Since September 2000 the course has been divided into two parts, AS and A2. Each part contains two units, which are, in turn, sub-divided.
It is not necessary for pupils to have completed the GCSE Sociology course in order to begin the AS/A2 level course. Many of our students come fresh to the subject in the Sixth Form and they are outstandingly successful. However, both Examination Boards recommend that students following this course should have achieved at least grade B at GCSE in English Language. If the subject has been studied at GCSE then a grade B is required for entry to AS Sociology.
