Advanced Apprenticeship

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • Functional Skills Level 2 Maths
  • Functional Skills Level 2 English
  • Functional Skills Level 2 ICT

On successful completion of the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship you will be eligible to apply for an ECS

Length of the course - 3 1/2 years

During the Apprenticeship you will cover areas such as:

  • Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults
  • Inspecting, testing and commissioning electrotechnical systems
  • Planning, preparing and installing wiring systems
  • Electrotechnical Occupational Competence (AM2 Test)
  • Electrotechnical - Highway Electrical Systems Commissioning

Who is it for?

Depending on your job role you could be working in a variety of different environments ranging from construction sites to office buildings alongside other tradespeople such as carpenters and plumbers.

In the Electrical industry you need to be good at solving problems, structuring your workload and enjoy working as part of a team.

How do you get into the industry

You do not always need academic qualifications to start training for a career in Electrical Installations. However, some employers may prefer you to have a good standard of general education such as GCSE’s, including English and Maths.

  • Ability to take responsibility for own actions

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)

Entry requirements

  • No formal qualifications are required, although Maths, English and ICT are preferred. 

Financial information

Aged 16-18
Fully funded

Aged 19-23
An employer contribution cost is required of £345 +VAT

Aged 24 and over
Total People require employers to make a contribution towards the cost for all learners aged 24 years and over, embarking on an Apprenticeship.


Future opportunities

  • Successful completion of the Diploma programme may lead to other vocational qualification such as City & Guilds 2394/5.
