Course description

WHY PERFORMING ARTS?

For those with a love of performance, the Performing Arts course at Madeley Academy is designed to develop students specialist and more general skills within the Performing Arts disciplines.    

Through practical exploration and performance work, students will develop and strengthen essential technical and performance skills.  In addition, they will also build their understanding of research, critical analysis and evaluation; essential skills for students wishing to apply for Higher Educational establishments or careers within the sector. 

Course content

COURSE DETAILS

BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Performing Arts (equivalent to 0.5 of an A Level)

Examples of units studied:

  • Mandatory units: Investigating Practitioners Work, Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance.  

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (equivilent of 1 A Level)

Examples of units studied:

As above with Group Performance Workshop plus a fourth additional unit will be selected from the range available by your course tutor.

BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts (equivilent of 2 A Levels)  

Examples of units studied:

As above plus Performing Arts In The Community, Individual Performance Commission, Final Live Performance to an Audience.

Two additional units will be selected from the range available by your course tutor.

Entry requirements

SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must achieve a minimum of  4 Grade A* - C plus English Language and Mathematics at grade 4
  • At least one GCSE/BTEC Level 2 qualification in a Performing Arts subject grade C or Merit.
  • Additional experience in Performing Arts either within the Academy, or through outside agencies, such as dancing schools or musical theatre is desirable.

Future opportunities

Performing Arts is also an excellent course for developing a range of transferable skills, in turn benefitting a wide range of careers.  This exciting and varied course is designed to build attributes sought by Universities, Vocational Colleges and employers such as independence, team work, leadership and management, self-discipline, communication and self-confidence.
