Functional Skills-Entry Level & Level 1 at Suffolk One
Functional Skills focus on practical skills. They will equip you with the necessary knowledge and understanding so that you can use English, mathematics and ICT in everyday life. With this you can get the most out of education and work. Functional Skills are a compulsory element for students (up to and inclusive of Level 2) at Suffolk One.
Read and understand information and instructions
Analyse how ideas and information are presented, and be able to evaluate their usefulness, for example solving a problem.
Make an oral presentation or report and contribute to discussions.
Use speech to work collaboratively in teams and to agree actions and/or conclusions.
For each component, reading, writing, and speaking and listening, realistic contexts have been designed so that you develop the skills you need.
In a practical context, this means you will develop the confidence and capability to:
Interpret and explaining situations
All within the following contexts: work and education, community, citizenship and environment, media and communication, and family, home and social issue.
In a practical context, this means that learners will be able to demonstrate their competence in three skills areas:
Using ICT systems including spreadsheet, database and word programmes
Finding and selecting information and using relevant programmes as above to achieve this.
Developing, presenting and communicating information, for example:
Presenting information as a poster or a series of presentation handouts.
No formal entry requirements.
Entry level: observations; witness testimonies; assessments;
Level 1: test papers; computer based tests where appropriate; witness testimonies.
