Course description

What kind of student would enjoy this course?

Someone who enjoys discussing issues, has an enquiring mind and a critical approach to the study of religion would enjoy this course. You do not need to have studied GCSE Religious Studies but it helps and you must have a good grasp of English.

What will I study?

Topics studied are:

Religion and Ethics, including three ethical theories, ethical language, medical ethics relating to beginning and end of life issues.

New Testament Studies, including the context of the New Testament, interpretation of the texts, key themes in the Gospels and critical challenges of the historical, scientific and ethical interpretations of the New Testament.

Study of Christianity, including religious beliefs, values and teachings, sources of wisdom and authority, practices which shape religious identity, social and historical developments and primary texts.

What skills will I learn?

You will learn to research information independently, to express your views coherently, orally and in written work and to make connections between different areas of study.

What could I do at the end of my course?

Religious Studies is regarded highly by universities as it develops many of the skills required in Higher Education, particularly for the study of subjects such as Philosophy, History, Law and Medicine.

    • Founded in 1915, it is situated on the outskirts of Royal Tunbridge Wells in 23 acres of beautiful grounds. Handsome buildings and very good modern facilities. A friendly, family school which has all the advantages of being small. Beechwood is a co-educational day and boarding school with an equal balnace of boys and girls. It is a Roman Catholic foundation which welcomes all denominations. An excellent, broad general curriculum is provided and examination results and value added measures are strong given the non-selective intake of the school. A good range of sport, games, societies and clubs. Strong commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. Full use is made of the cultural amenities of the town and of London.
