About the course?
This qualification offers you the opportunity to learn skills in the digital world. This course will improve your IT skills and inspire you to become a creative user of technology. This qualification is also designed to improve your employability skills and English and Maths through the study of Functional skills.

- Using the Internet
- Using e-mail
- Using collaborative technologies
- IT Software fundamentals
- Audio software
- Video software
- Multimedia software
- Website software
- Imaging software
- Website software
To achieve the Award for IT Users, you will have to complete a minimum of 9 credits. Most units each carry two or three credits. To achieve the Certificate for IT Users, you will have to complete a minimum of 13 credits.
Throughout the course, you will also learn employability skills and Functional skills, which will be related to your IT qualification.
You must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the Computing and Creative technology.
Each unit will be assessed against grading criteria set by the awarding body. A variety of assessment methods are available such as performance observation, written work, case studies and projects. Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of the grading criteria, providing wherever possible a realistic scenario for learners to work with and making maximum use of practical activities. There may also be some external assessment marked by the awarding body.
If you are 16-18, there are no fees to pay.
The City & Guilds Award/Certificate for IT Users provide the skills, knowledge and understanding for you to progress to:
- Other level 1 vocational qualifications
- Level 2 qualifications, such as the Edexcel BTEC Diploma in IT (Specialist)
- Academic qualifications, such as GCSE or GCE in ICT or Computing
- Employment within the information technology industry
