Course description

We believe there’s nothing more important than taking responsibility for a child’s well- being. Whether working as a teacher, nursery nurse or in the care industry it's vital you can offer a service that's caring, supportive, fun and stimulating. Our courses will show you how to develop all of these skills and apply them at work.

Course content

You will develop the skills needed to work with babies and young children through a combination of theory and practical sessions. Covering subjects including development, safeguarding, health and safety and organising activities, you’ll learn how children develop and pick up effective techniques for interacting with young children. You’ll also get the chance to apply what you have learnt on a work placement.

Entry requirements

You will need a relevant Level 1 qualification plus four GCSEs grade D or above, including English language and maths or functional skills Level 1, plus a satisfactory DBS check.


All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments, and professional discussion.

Future opportunities

After this course you can progress to the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce.
