Animal Care - Diploma in Animal Management (60 credit) Work related (Level 3) at Hopwood Hall College

Course description

This course is for people who have a keen interest in animals and want to develop or learn new skills to enable them to work in this industry.
Our indoor and outdoor facilities are some of the best in Greater Manchester with a wide range of animals including alpacas, meerkats, falabella horses, rhea, exotics, birds and aquatics. We also have a Blue Cross rehoming centre for cats.
This course will enable you to gain practical skills to help you gain employment in the pet industry in veterinary nursing or move into an apprenticeship.
Our level 3 qualification allow straight progression into higher education or university.

Course content

• Providing food and water for animals
• Maintaining animal accommodation
• Helping with animal hygiene
• Care of exotics, including reptiles, amphibians and insects
• Animal biology including nutrition, growth, digestion and reproduction
• Anatomy and physiology
• Animal health and welfare, including diseases and first aid
• Aquatics
• Wildlife and rehabilitation
• Work experience

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade C or above to include English and Mathematics OR BTEC Level 2 qualification OR NVQ Level 2 OR VRQ Level 2.

Financial information

No cost for 16-19 year olds.

      By Road: 
      The Middleton Campus is two miles from junction 20 on the M62. Take the A627(M) towards Oldham and leave at first junction and follow signs to Middleton.
      By Rail: 
      The Castleton rail station is 2 miles from the Middleton campus, and takes around ten minutes to reach by bus.
      By Bus: 
      The No. 17 bus service runs frequent between Rochdale and Manchester approximately every ten minutes and stops at the entrance to the Middleton Campus.
