Chinese (Mandarin) *FEES PAYABLE* at Clifton College
Clifton is unusual in the range of languages it is possible to study, and in giving the opportunity to start a new language in the Sixth Form subject to timetabling restraints. Who knows, the language you learn here may turn into your chosen subject at University, as has happened to several recent sector E students. You may also have the opportunity of spending one of your years at University abroad.
If you are starting a new language, you will normally have done a GCSE, and you already know how to learn a language, so you can make quick progress. Sector E languages are a rewarding way to learn a language and enhance your CV.
There are two different Chinese courses available in Sector E1. Native speakers who take Chinese at AS and A2 level follow a one or two year course of study and are taught by a native speaking teacher. All four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are examined at AS level. Only reading and writing skills are examined at A2 and students must submit a pre-prepared essay on a topic of their choice.
The beginner’s course is for students with no previous knowledge of Chinese who would like an opportunity to try a different and exciting language. It is a non-examined one-year course that will enable students to “survive” in the language by learning Chinese for everyday situations. Students will also acquire a basic written vocabulary.
Please ensure that you understand that course fees will be payable before submitting your application.
