Course description

This qualification is for Post 16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector. It covers the business environment, finance, marketing and law.

Course content

Unit 1 – Exploring Business: Investigate the purposes of different businesses, their organisation structure, the effect of the external environment and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive. Unit 2 - Developing a Marketing Campaign: Gain an understanding of how a marketing campaign is developed as well as the skills required to develop a campaign. Unit 3 – Personal and Business Finance: Develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information. Unit 23 - The English Legal System: Examine how the English legal system operates to resolve criminal and civil cases and why businesses and individuals may require legal advice and representation.

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE grades 9-4 including English and Maths.


Unit 3 is a 2 hours written exam. All other units are assessed through coursework assignments. Unit 2 is assessed externally, whilst Units 1 and 23 are assessed internally.

Future opportunities

Higher Education and Career Opportunities: Upon completion of this course, you can progress to university to study a business related degree. It gives you UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admissions requirements for many courses. Alternatively, you can enter into employment or an apprenticeship. Areas of employment include junior business roles in Administration, Finance, HR, and Marketing.
