History A level at The Ecclesbourne School

Course description

History will enable you to explore the events, individuals, issues and societies of the past, but more importantly, allow you to understand how they have impacted our world today. At A Level you will learn to understand selected periods in history, the nature of historical evidence and the methods used by historians in analysis and evaluation.

At AS you will study two units, an Enquiry and a Period Study. The Enquiry focuses on "The Condition of England (1815-1853)" where you will learn about the quality of life and living conditions of people from this era. The Period Study- "From Autocracy to Communism"- focuses on Russia from 1894-1941.

At A2, the Interpretations and Investigations provides the course work element of Unit 3, likely to focus on Nazi Germany. Finally, the Themes in History unit is a synoptic unit covering a period of 100 years. We offer the study of Russian Rulers from 1855-1964.
