OCR Chemistry A

The aims of this specification are to encourage you to:

  • develop your interest in adn enthusiasm for chemistry
  • apprechiate how society make decisons about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society
  • develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works
  • develop your essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of chemistry ad hwo they relate to each other

Development of practical skills

Foundations in chemistry

Periodic table and energy

Core organic chemistry

Physical chemistry and transitional elements

Organic chemistry and analysis

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 higher grades at GCSE including English and maths at a high level.

GCSE chemistry grade A plus a high grade in maths.  Knowledge of scientific language.

Assessment

Examination and practical endorsement

Future opportunities

Medicine and Medical Sciences, Veterinary Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and many other science based careers. The prerequisite for Medicine and Medical Sciences and Veterinary Science at University is often the the majority of GCSE, AS and A level grades at A*/A.
