Public Services Level 1 Certificate and Extended Certificate at Middlesbrough College
The course is designed to prepare learners for a career in uniform. Skills learnt are essential life skills that all uniform public services are looking for in their candidates. These include; Self-discipline, Team work, Organisational skills, Time management, Safety awareness, drill and turn out and bearing (appearance).
The course is designed to cover two qualifications, the first qualification is the certificate course and the units covered are as follows: Unit 5 – Public Service Careers Unit 11 – Practical Team work in the Public Services Unit 12 – Map Reading Unit 17 – Introduction to Expedition Skills The Extended Certificate course consists of the following units: Unit 3 – Health and Fitness for the Public Services Unit 6 – Improving fitness for the Public Services Unit 7 – Personal Skills for the Public Services Unit 16 – Public Service Project Unit 18 – Developing Personal Skills for the Public Services Unit 22 – Building working relationships with colleagues Unit 23 – Building working relationships with customers
Students require GSCE grades at E in Maths and English "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
Students will be assessed through unit theory and practical assignment, which are computer based and electronically submitted. Photographic evidence can also be used.
The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Level 1 students can progress onto the level 2 Public Service Course or apply for the service of their choice.
