Dance at The New Sixth Bath
On this course, students will study:
Regular practical technique classes focusing mainly on a range of Contemporary Dance techniques. Other genres will be studied such as Ballet, Jazz, Tap
Performance skills for the dancer
Dance history and its context
Anatomy of movement, diet, injury prevention and safe studio practice
Dance analysis, appreciation of Dance as an art form.
Unit 1: Understanding Dance. Knowledge and understanding of performance and choreography. Anatomy, safe studio practice, choreographic process and analysis of professional dance works.
Unit 2: Choreography and Performance. Practical experience of choreography and performance, to include a piece of solo choreography and performance in a duo/trio.
Unit 3: Dance Appreciation: Content and Context. Understanding the development of dance through the study of specific genres of dance, such as ballet, modern or jazz. Critical analysis of a set work.
Unit 4: Group Choreography and Solo Performance. A practical unit comprising of a piece of group choreography and an extended solo performance.
Students will be dedicated to learning more about all aspects of dance. They will have chances tochoreograph, analyse and perform dances. It is advantageous to have previous experience of dance such as GCSE or BTEC Performing Arts. Extra-curricular experience of dance, particularly Contemporary Dance, will also benefit students.
