Information Technology BTEC Extended Certificate at Cardinal Newman College

Course description

Information Technology allows you to study a wide range of IT systems. It is aimed at students who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems and for those wanting to learn software application skills which are highly sought after by companies within the IT industry.

Course content

In the Information Technology course, you will learn about the features and uses of digital devices in IT systems and carry out research into how emerging technologies can be used by individuals and organisations. Students also design, create and test a relational database system and will develop software application skills, such as creating spreadsheets which can be used for data modelling. You will also learn how businesses use social media to promote their goods and services and plan, create and evaluate social media for a client’s requirements.

Entry requirements

At least five Cs at GCSE

Future opportunities

Many of our students apply for apprenticeships or go directly into employment within the IT industry. Junior job roles that this course can lead to are Website Content Manager, Software Engineer and Help Desk Support.
