Physical Education A-Level at Freman College

Course description

Physical Education provides a course of study that expands on many of the ideas and concepts already encountered during Key Stage 4. Extending knowledge of skills, techniques and effective performance.

Course content

Component 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Skill Acquisition
  • Sport and Society

Component 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport

  • Exercise Physiology
  • Sports Psychology
  • Sport and Society and Technology in Sport

Component 3: Practical performance and analysis as a coach or performer in a sport

Entry requirements

Grade B in Biology paper B2 and grade B in the GCSE PE theory paper.


Component 1: Written Paper 35%, 105 marks

Component 2: Written Paper 35%, 105 marks

Component 3: Non-exam assessment- Internal assessment and external moderation of performance and written coursework. 30%, 90 marks

Students wishing to follow Higher Education courses in Sport, Leisure and Physiotherapy will find this course invaluable in terms of physiological, psychological and sociological content.
