History AS & A Level at Felpham Community College
History isn’t a subject that is stuck in the past. Far from it! Historical events are what have shaped society worldwide into what it is today. As George Santanyana so aptly said ‘those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.’
Year 12: Students study two units designed to promote an understanding of change and development over time.
Year 13: Students take two more units - a thematic study focusing on historical interpretations and a topic based essay.
A minimum of five A* to C grades at GCSE including grade B or above in history if studied.
- Unit 1: England, 1485 to 1558 - the early Tudors.
- Unit 2: Japan, 1853-1937.
- Unit 3: Russia and its rulers, 1855-1964.
- Unit 4: Topic-based essay: 3000-4000 words.
