Physics A Level at Bordesley Green Girls' School & Sixth Form

Course description

Physics is the search for the fundamental laws of the universe. Physics is behind the technology that put man on the moon, made the internet possible and revolutionised surgery, and also the technology that will shape tomorrow's world. it is the search for answers and a better understanding of our place in the universe

Course content

AS qualification consists of 3 units one of which is practical work: 1) Mechanics 2) Electrons, Waves and Photons 3) Practical skills in Physics 1 A2 qualification is made up of 3 units, one of which is practical work: 1) Newton's laws and momentum 2) Fields, Particles and Frontiers of Physics 3) Practical skills in Physics 2 The subject is assessed through the two year course, including Unit examinations in January and May of each year.

Entry requirements

5 Grade B or a 6 in Mathematics

> B in Additional Science and a C in Core Science

> Distinction in BTEC Applied Science

>BBC Physics, Biology, Chemistry

> C in Core Science, B in Additional Science and a B in Further Science

Assessment

The course is modular with three mandatory units assessed in Year 12 through examinations and practicals

Financial information

A school bursary may be availale to those students meeting the relevant criteria from September 2015
