Sport City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate at Gateshead College

Course description

The Level 1 City and Guilds award provides a qualification for those who wish to work in a variety of sports and active leisure locations. The course is aimed at preparing the students who wish to embark on a career in the sport and active leisure Industry. Our enthusiastic and passionate staff provide; an engaging, practical and hands on qualification which is designed to prepare you for work in a multiple of sport and leisure facilities. 

We’ll help you to develop the skills that show your potential to an employer. This includes how you can use your knowledge to best effect, that you have the right attitude, high standards and will be a great asset to their business.

Course content

The course is broken down into two strands. Both strands are made up of four individual units:

1) Participating in sport

  • Components and functions of the body
  • Improving fitness
  • Leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Taking part in sport

2) Sport in the workplace

  • Recognising opportunities for participation
  • People skills in sport and active leisure
  • Understanding the active leisure sector
  • Working safely in sport and active leisure

In addition to these qualifications you will receive group and individual tutorials every week, gain work readiness skills and participate in one of our sport academies, where you'll be trained by highly qualified coaches and strength and conditioning coaches.

    • Gateshead College's Baltic Campus is located on the Gateshead quayside, just minutes from Newcastle City Centre and its attractions.

      The College is situated behind the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead.

      The College has its own car park, but at busy times alternative parking is available nearby.

      There is a charge for parking. Students can apply for a permit to allow free parking during study time.
