Course content

Chemistry is the study of how the elements and their compounds behave and how chemical principles underpin our understanding of the physical and biological environment. The A Level course builds upon the GCSE content you will have studied and includes topics like atomic structure, chemical bonding and the periodic table, organic chemistry, transition metals, energy changes and rates of reaction. The course will include practical work which will help in your wider understanding.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for progression onto an A Level pathway is at least five grade 5s at GCSE, including English.

We would expect students looking to study a chemistry A Level to have a grade 5 or above in GCSE chemistry or combined science, and grade 5 in maths.
