Physics AS/A2 level at The Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Pupils are taught in a variety of ways ranging from research assignments to practical investigations. The course content varies from dealing with the microscopic quantumn world of subatomic particles to the infinite of Space. Sudents familiarise themselves with the work of Galileo, Newton, Faraday, and Einstein, standing on the shoulders of giants to better understand the world around them.

Course content

Topics include: Kinematics, Particle Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Creation to Collapse, Waves and Wave Particle Duality. Students study through an experimental method and are encouraged to develop their ability to theorise and model physical situations. Students also complete two internally assessed projects based on a field trip or case study.

Coursework:

AS Unit 3 (20% AS)

A2 Unit 6 (20% A2 )

Examinations:

Unit 1 January (40% of total AS)

Unit 2 June (40% of total AS)

Unit 4 January (40% of A2)

Unit 5 June (40% of A2)
