Hairdressing Intermediate Apprenticeship at Weston College

Course description

Apprenticeships are all about learning on the job – getting paid while you learn from your employer and coming into college for a day a week for practical training, theory and demos and to work in our commercial salon. You will learn the theory and skills of the Level 2 in Hairdressing. You will also be able to develop other skills such as ear piercing, tanning and tooth gems and have the opportunity to enter competitions such as WorldSkills.

The topics you will study include basic techniques in: cutting hair, changing hair colour, styling, dressing and finishing hair. Skills in Maths and English will be embedded into your academic/ vocational learning. If you do not have a grade C in Maths and/or English you will attend a discrete GCSE or Functional Skills class as part of your weekly timetable.

Entry requirements

You will need to be in relevant employment, but we can support you to find this. You will also need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above or a Level 1 qualification.


Your personal assessor will visit your salon to review your progress. We will also assess you at our commercial college salon and you will do online tests.
