Course description

Course content

Why do we have Laws? What is their purpose? How are they made? Law will provide you with the opportunity to learn all about the legal system and how it operates; how laws are made and the elements behind a criminal act.

You will also consider the philosophy that underpins crime and punishment in a modern society. Particular emphasis is placed on case law and precedent’s that are set by the justice system and how this is applied in a court of law. We will also study the impact of law on Human Rights issues in the UK. As well as this we will develop your skills of analysis, discussion and debate through the study of a variety of controversial issues.



Entry requirements

Grade 4 and above in English Language



Three Exam papers (2 hours each).

Paper 1 - The Legal System & Criminal Law

Paper 2 - Law Making & The Law of Tort

Paper 3 – The Nature of Law & Human Rights Law


Future opportunities

By completing an A Level in Law, you can have the opportunity to progress to continue the subject to Degree level or even begin a work placed apprenticeship. Through the development of skills the course brings, Law is seen as a good A Level for anyone wishing to pursue a career or study in Politics, Economics, History, or Business.
