Bench Joinery Level 2 Diploma at Oaklands College
This is a full time course covering one year. The level 2 Diploma Bench Joinery is available at the Smallford Campus. This course is designed to give learners their first experiences or expand on previous experiences in Bench Joinery. The aim of the course is to put in place all the skills and knowledge that is required to become a good Bench Joiner. It consists of 3 core units: know how to carry out safe working practices, Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others 2, knowledge of building methods and construction technology 2. There are 4 trade Units: Know how to produce setting out details for routine Joinery products,Know how to mark setting out details for routine Joinery products , Know how to manufacture Joinery products, set up & operate Circular saw. All Theory is Practically assessed and supported with Assignments. On completion of the practical work there is a 18 hour synoptic test to be passed.
You will learn about the tools you use as a Bench Joinery (hand/power) and how to use them. The materials, the techniques, health & safety, the construction industry in general & employment rights(employee & employer).To gain the level 2 diploma candidates must be successful in achieving all units and passing the synoptic practical test.They must also pass the online Gola test, a separate knowledge test set and assessed by CAA (Constructions award Alliance)the awarding body.
Completion of the level 1 Diploma carpentry & joinery with a continued interest in becoming a skilled Carpenter in the construction industry. An aptitude for practical/theory skills and a good work ethic. Hold three GCSE's at grade C or above, a pass at level 1 maths/English functional skills. Initial assessment BKSB showing level 1 literacy and numeracy or above. At least 85% out 100% attendance is required to achieve the course with awarding body point scheme in place to ensure progress.
This course is designed for those school leavers who have achieved grade C GCSE's in English & Maths or having completed your Level 1 Diploma Carpentry & Joinery a discussion will be held with you and your tutor to give guidance on your progression, identifying the correct course for you. This course will help you to take your first steps into Bench Joinery aiding in the process of seeking employment in the construction industry. You must have the ability to work with others and on your own, a capability to problem solve and the willing to accept ownership of your qualification. you will need to be able to work to a high standard and recognise the standards required from industry and the awarding body. good visual awareness is needed although this is applied through training.
Your technical certificate will be assessed by unit tests and a gola test at the end of the programme. There will also be a synoptic phase test for the practical component of the technical certificate. During the programme you will be formatively assessed on work produced,practical/theory, and there for the assessment process is ongoing at all times.
16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.
On full completion of the level 2 course you will be guided, advised and invited onto a construction management course. skills, ability, level of achievement and performance/attendance are considered on progression. During this course all learners are expected to be seeking employment in the industry enabling them to be transferred onto the apprenticeship programme there for progressing them onto a level 2 NVQ & an apprenticeship framework.
It is a necessary for learners to achieve a minimum of 85% percent attendance in order to pass with awarding body points scheme in place to ensure progress. All learners are required to complete Level 1 Functional skills qualifications.
