The Foundation (which is new name from September 2017) is standalone one year programme but if successful you can carry forward the units to a 2nd year and complete the Extended Diploma. BTEC's embody a fundamentally learner-centre approach to the curriculum.
The BTEC business programmes take place in newly refurbished rooms, offering students the opportunity to learn in a vibrant and inviting environment. Students also have access to IT suites and laptops to help them conduct research and complete coursework.
In the first year, this Diploma offers an introduction to business related topics covering the core areas of the Exploring Business and Personal & Business Finance as well as Developing a Marketing Campaign and Managing an Event. Also there will be 3 relevant optional units. You will also take part in an enterprise challenge which is designed to improve your entrepreneurial skills.
In your second year, you will explore more specialist areas such as International Business, team building in business and Principles of Management as well as Business Decision Making and Creative Promotion. Alongside 2 x relevant optional units. such as Recruitment and Selection and Employment Law. The qualification includes an exciting work experience placement. Assessment is a mixture of course work, mini projects and externally set tasks and one exam. You need no previous business knowledge to succeed on this course.
Five GCSEs at Grade C or above
Five GCSE at Grade C or above - including English and Maths. If you have 4's (or below) in English and Maths on new grading system - will need to have strong Grades C and above in other GCSE subjects. All will be discussed at interview and reviewed on introductory day.

The programme employs a variety of assessment techniques. These can range from word processed reports to role play, work experience placement, discussions, interviews, presentations and external assessments. Recording equipment is also provided as a means of generating assessment evidence.
This year BTEC have introduced 1 written exam in the Foundation - First Year.
All learners are given the opportunity to raise their aspirations and improve their grade profiles by revisiting assignment tasks during the integrated upgrade weeks.
Q. Do I need to buy any text books?
A. All learning materials are provided by the programme team, however there are text books that mirror the course. These are available to buy or free of charge on-line for all learners. Details will be given in your induction week.
Q. Are there any additional costs?
A. Students undertake a variety of optional trips and activities for which there may be a cost. For example all learners are given the opportunity to participate in a European/UK residential for which there is a cost. Students will need to print their assignments.
Employers will find this qualification valuable because the business skills you will gain are relevant both to the public and private sectors. Career choices? Think teaching, car sales, event management, banking, retail management, accountancy, administration and marketing occupations. Employment, progression, higher apprenticeships or Degrees. Will help support employment with management opportunities
Q. What happens if I need help with my assignments?
A. All learners are given regular 1:1 support form their lecturers in addition to resubmission attempts to improve and revise assessments.
Q. Is the course delivered on every day of the week?
A. We make every effort to timetable over four days, giving learners the opportunity to get part-time work or additional study time for one day a week.
