Mathematics GCSE (Mature) at Burntwood School
This is a one year course where students continue to work on the National Curriculum Attainment Targets : Geometry and Measure, Number, Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change, Algebra and Statistics and Probability. Most lessons are teacher led, although there are plenty of opportunities for independent and group work. In order to improve a GCSE grade, students are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment, including at least three hours homework per week.
All sixth form students who have not gained at least a standard pass in Mathematics must attend GCSE Maths
A GCSE in Mathematics is an essential qualification for any school leaver. Employers will always ask for a qualification in Mathematics because it is a necessary subject in almost every job. In particular, it is required for careers in which the subject forms the main function of the job, e.g. interpreting data, presenting facts and figures, accurate calculation, making predictions and planning strategies for future growth. It is now required for entrance to university
