Information Technology Cambridge Technical Level 3 at Little Heath School

Course description

The Cambridge Technical in IT Level 3 qualification is a course equivalent to a full A Level that offers the opportunity to develop skills demanded by employers in the UK today. Students will have the oppor tunity to acquire the essential knowledge and tools for the world of work by developing transferable skills such as research, analysis and effective communication.

Course content

Compulsory units:

Unit one: Communication and employability skills for information technology

Unit two: Information systems

In addition, students can study 4 units of their choice, for example:

Computer networks; website production; computer animation; web animation for interactive media; developing computer games.

Entry requirements

The requirement for entry to the course is five GCSE passes at Grades A*-C. It is not a vital requirementthat ICT has been studied in previous years. Sixth form work requires a high level of motivation and self-discipline - success depends on the student being organised to meet deadlines and motivated to workindependently


A portfolio of coursework will be produced and is internally marked and externally moderated.

Future opportunities

This qualification counts towards UCAS points for university study, supporting progression to university and other higher education as well as supplying an ideal foundation for applying for apprenticeships or employment in computer based industries.
