IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals Intermediate Apprenticeship – Level 2 at Dudley College

Course description

This Apprenticeship consists of three elements which combine to make up this level 2 framework, these are:

A Technical Certificate to develop and expand the knowledge your apprentice requires for their job role. For this apprenticeship this is the Level 2 Award in ICT Systems and Principles.

A Competence qualification which focuses on the practical aspects of your employee’s role. For this apprenticeship this is Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT & Telecoms Professionals.

Functional Skills to develop your apprentice’s maths, English and Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills further if required. For this apprenticeship these are Mathematics Level 1, English Level 1and ICT Level 1.

Course content

Diploma in ICT Professional Competence L2
Award in ICT Systems and Principles L2
Functional skills in English, maths and ICT all at L1.

The Diploma in ICT Professional Competence allows for the selection of a number of optional units such as:
• Testing ICT systems
• Technical fault diagnosis
• Working with hardware and ICT equipment
• Security of ICT systems
• Software installation and upgrade
• Technical advice and guidance
• Website software
• Remote support for ICT products and services.

Award in ICT Systems and Principles L2 units:
Install and configure ICT equipment and operating systems
ICT Repair centre Procedures

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at grade C and a grade 4 in English and mathematics, together with a successful interview and references.

Assessment

The Technical Certificate is a 2 unit qualification with a classroom based practical assessments.

The Competence Qualification uses a mixture of observation, discussion, examples of work, witness testimony and questioning compiled by the apprentice and the assessor to show that the apprentice has the underpinning knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to do their job. The Assessor will keep you updated on your apprentice’s progress at the end of every visit if required.

Functional Skills are assessed by examinations, with a separate exam for maths, English and ICT. Once your apprentice is ready to be assessed, they can come into college or arrange to take their tests in the workplace. The assessments can be taken at any time during the apprenticeship.
