Media BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Scarborough Sixth Form College
Over the two year course, you will be working in print and photography as well as planning, filming and editing moving image. Throughout you will use a range of cameras and our green screen as well as professional editing software including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects for editing moving images.
You will have a mixture of classroom-based lessons, group work, practical sessions and the chance for independent study. BTEC units are always built around an industry scenario and the work follows the path of research, planning and production. You will
take on the roles of people who work in the media such as producer, director, editor and camera operator, and learn to use a full range of equipment such as cameras, lighting and the green screen. You will also learn how to research a production, create a
storyboard and plan a production. In this course the emphasis is on learning to work in a professional way, and you will work both by yourself and with other students.
At the end of the first year, you will gain a Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media Production, completing your Diploma in the second year.
Units will cover a wide range of media and techniques such as those listed below. Extended Diploma students will study the same units as Diploma students plus a wider range of more specialised productions and techniques.
- Film production
- Factual Production for Television
- Film Editing
- Television Advertising
- Sound Recording
- Music Video Production
- Promotional Video
You will need to meet the level 3 BTEC entry requirements.
80% of your work will be assessed internally by your teachers and externally moderated by Edexcel; 20% of your work will be externally-set and assessed.
The BTEC qualifications are recognised by universities and therefore successful completion will enable students to continue their studies in higher education on a related course such as film production, television and media or journalism. Alternatively you will find that BTEC qualifications are valued by employers and can lead to career opportunities in a variety of fields including marketing and events management, as well as directly related careers in the IT and computing and entertainment industries.
