Children's Play, Learning and Development Level 3 Certificate at Blackburn College

Course description

This Level 3 certificate in Children's Play, Learning & Development is a full time two year course which provides you with a qualification that enables you to work with children and young people from birth to 19 years. This course gives you an opportunity to develop a sound understanding of children and young people, from birth to 19 years old.

Course content

You will complete a wide range of units which include:

  • Promoting Communication
  • Supporting Health and Safety
  • Understanding Development
  • Promoting Wellbeing
  • Maths & English*

*If you have not achieved a Grade D or above in your Maths and English language GCSEs you will be required to work towards a GCSE Grade C as part of your Study Programme.

 

In addition to this, you will also attend 750 hours of work placement every other week throughout the year. The units and the work placements need to be successfully achieved to gain the diploma.

Entry requirements

You will need a profile of at least 4 GCSEs grades A-C and Maths and English at Grade D or above. You will also need a satisfactory police check (DBS).

Assessment

Assessment will be by successfully completing written assignments and positive placement reports demonstrating occupational competence. Additionally, one unit is assessed externally through an exam.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed your Level 3 course you will be able to apply to a range of Universities or take up employment as a practioner in the Early Years setting. Many students progress to University Centre at Blackburn College where 9 out of 10 graduates are in work or further study just six months after graduation.
